Sol
This piece is the second part of a number of pieces I completed in spring 2021. "Sol" is the name of Gods of the sun in both Roman and Norse mythology, it is the name of a solar day on the planet mars, and it is the base latin word for our words solar, and solstice.
But beyond that, it is the engine that drives all biological life on this planet. This piece is a simple honoring of that reality.
This piece is made with a number of different woods and finished only with boiled linseed oil and beeswax. The corner sun is made from mahogany and cherry, and the piece also uses walnut, purple heart, and maple. No stains or paints are used, and the wood arrives both colorful and imperfect. I do use power tools, but each piece has been touched, milled, planed, sanded, and oiled by hand.
I offer it both with or without a walnut frame, and the piece can be wall-mounted on a single anchored screw with its hanging wire and D-rings.
Measures 19” x 26”
